Joan Baez – The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down

Grab a comfy seat and sit right back and let me tell you a story. Why, is this song on my iPod you ask? Well it reminds me of when I was younger and the Toronto Blue Jays won their first World Series. It’s interesting how music cues can make us remember things. The first song that I actually heard was Bryan Adams “Never Gonna Be Other Tonight”, which was part of a Coke commercial on TV.

The other song that you heard a lot during the next few days was the one in this post. Apparently, Radio Stations had a sense of humor back then. I’m guessing that’s why they picked this one after they beat the Atlanta Braves.

At least it was as bad as the following year when they repeated as Champions. Would you believe the big song then was Whoop There It Is, by Tag Team (I’m not making this up, although I wish I was) It was funny when they were showing the trophy ceremony and the announcer had no idea what the crowd was chanting :)

In other, slightly related news. Can you believe spring training has started already. Always a great sign, that Summer is right around the corner!!

You can purchase the song here. Or if the video link is down, you can still hear a 30 second clip in your browser.

God, I always hated her voice. And just listening to that now made me want to elbow my monitor.

But if you knew you hated her, why did you listen?? There's a reason I use YouTube videos, they don't auto-play.

Anywho, good to know. Avoid Joan Baez around Jafer, or somebodies going to get hurt real bad :)

I can understand the choice bu there is so much Joan Baez that's more worthy.

I was never really into her music. Do you have any particular recommendations?

You know, I don't—I remember liking a lot of her stuff, especially the
songs she sang at the infamous Hippie concert in the States, whose name
escapes me, but it's easier to remember the one that I really didn't like.
