Finishing Touches

by Lyndon on November 17, 2008

So in preparation of my blogs anniversary on Saturday. I’m currently working on a new feature to my site. Namely a podcast! After three years of the written word (English teachers may debate this claim) I’ve decided to add a new way to express myself. Does this mean that I’ll abandon prose entirely, um no. So why do it then you say?

Well one thing that I’ve always tried to do over the years is to try new things. While some of my inspirations did well, others flopped completely. (Anybody remember Lifeslackers, yeah I didn’t think so) So I had two choices that I could go with, I could start a videocast or a podcast. While both things leave me with a sense of dread. Do I want to see my ugly mug or do I want to hear my annoying voice?

Well if your a frequent visitor of the site, you know I rather appear behind the camera, than in front of it.  So that really made the decision kind of easy. I’d do a podcast and hopefully not drive my readership away ;) Blogging audiences can be a bit fickle. but I think it should be ok.

My podcasts will be a bit of a work in progress. I’m still getting the hand of things and I’m not happy with all the results. My audio seems a bit of hit and miss at the moment. Sometimes I find that the recording comes out crisp and clear and other times it seems as though I’m drifting off. I also have no idea if I’m going to upload my posts to iTunes as well. While I will do video reviews, it doesn’t really reflect the entire focus of the blog. There’s no category for Jerry Seinfeld like generalists, how don’t really talk about anything in particular.

Well that’s it for now, just trying to keep the few of you that follow the site up do date. Especially since I left Facebook and I’m not in contact with some of you. Although you can follow me on Twitter, I find it’s a better fit to a blogger. Plus I like the way I’m able to share links.  It’s like a suped up RSS feed!! I’m also surprised at how quickly you get followers. I’m at 20 something in a few days and that’s without really promoting it on my site. Just think it took almost a year to get that many people on my RSS feed.

Later…

Good luck on your new endeavor!

That’s what I ought to try. Yes, everyone could hear The Hawg drawl on about anything and everything.

On second thought…

You think blog audiences are fickle, wait until you get a load of podcast listeners!

Lyndon 11.18.08 at 2:58 pm

@ Hawg - It would definitely be a different kind of podcast ;)

@ Nat - I’m beginning to wonder if I know what I’m getting myself into?

I’d never dare to because of my voice.. well, my speech impairment. Brave of you.

Lyndon 11.19.08 at 2:02 am

@ Michael - I’m not really sure if it’s brave. But sometimes you just have to challenge yourself to do something new. Even if it’s something that scares you a bit!!

Apparently there aren’t many double threats. Most people blog or podcast but not both. Break the mold!

I shall Be watching Intently.

@ Scott - I’m going for the first ever blogcaster (a blogger who podcasts) I don’t know if I’m breaking any molds though, I’m sure other people do it? Just can’t think of any!

@ Beamer - Well not too intently, your going make me nervous ;)

One of my favorite bloggers became a podcaster; in spite of his being hilarious in writing, he’s kind of embarrassing on his podcasts and I shy away from them. which goes to show how fickle I am. In fact, just writing that has made me change my mind—I’m going to listen intently, with latitude.
