Yes, I’m now a member of the Cult of Mac!! On Tuesday I bought a Mac Pro.

Then on Wednesday, I bought my friends pre-loved Macbook Pro. He got one of the new shiny ones and I got his sloppy seconds. But hey, at least mine has fire wire (apparently it’s a big thing to Mac users) I don’t know what all the hub-bub is about? But then again I’ve been a PC user for a really long time. I was just happy to get anything to plug and play right. No more stupid drivers, that cause something to crash.

Needless to say, after making my two purchases I’m flat broke
It’s kind of strange using a Mac after a very long time. The last time I used one, I was in college and that was about 8 years ago. I keep trying to right click with the mouse, it’s driving me a bit nuts. Is it so difficult to make it one button, Mr. Jobs. I’m guessing I’ll have to set up some kind of short cut in the mouse preferences. That’s about the most drastic change. If you’ve used a PC, you should be able to use a Mac.
The only thing I don’t like about it and it’s a minor gripe. I can’t find something that I like to write my blog posts on. So far I’ve tried Ecto, MacJournal and MarsEdit!! I’m currently using Scribefire, it’s ok. But I can’t believe I’m about to say this. But I prefer Windows Live Writer, stop laughing!! It actually does a pretty good job and it’s free. But I’m not going to install Boot Camp, just to use one Windows program. I think I’ll find something, but I’m surprised. With the number of people that use Macs to blog, I can’t believe there isn’t a better solution.
Well I’ve spent most of this weekend, learning how to use my new toys, I’m going to go back to doing that. Just wanted to let you know what I was up to, before you all went out to hire a deprogrammer to get me away from my new family members
Later…

You’ll love your Mac. PCs suck. I’ve got a PC at work, a PC at home and two PC laptops at the house, to boot.
I truly hate them.
Ah, buy my wife likes them, so guess what? No Mac for The Hawg. Awwww.

Welcome to the cult. You can set up right clicking in system preferences; I’m pretty sure most new Macs come with the “mighty mouse” these days, which actually have 4 buttons concealed in that smooth plastic shell. I’m so used to using a 1-button mouse though since I’ve been using Macs since college, I generally just hold down the CTRL key and click when I want to bring up a contextual menu.
Enjoy your new user-friendly virus-free, albeit expensive existence!

@ Hawg - Maybe someday you’ll join the cult as well
@ SandyCarlson - Thank you for the well wishes!!
@ MCF - Yes, I do have one of the mighty mouses, thanks for the tip. I’m slowly getting use to using the CTRL button. But it still feels weird!!
@ Marites - Guess I’ll have to get you a mop
@ Scott - So your using Scribefire then? Because I don’t know of any other one that you can do that with in Firefox.
@ Nick - Thanks for the tip, I’ll check it out!

I had only ever used a PC and when I decided I needed to upgrade my laptop (I don’t have a desktop anymore) I decided to switch to Mac. After about 2 days of growing pains where I cursed my decision, it all clicked. I am now in love and understand why people rave the way they do. I would never go back. I have a black Macbook. It is my baby.
I can’t help you with the blogging issue as I blog directly in Word Press and don’t entirely understand the reason for blogging in an editor rather than just blogging right on the blog. But feel free to explain. I may be missing out on something!

@ Jen - Well, sometimes I like to get of the house and write. So depending on where I’m at, I might not always have access to the internet and if I get an idea, I can’t post it right away. So if I’m using a blog editor, I can write it, edit it and add my tags. Then all I have to do is just post it, when I’m connected to the internet again.
@ Scott - Duh!! (Well on my part) I get what you mean now.
@ Ivanhoe - If you own a Mac and you still need to use PC software. There’s a program called Boot Camp, along with your copy of Windows (if you bought it) you’d be all set. But you already bought the HP, so I guess you’ll have to live with your decision a bit longer
@ Daniel - Thanks for the suggestion, I’ve tried Ecto! I don’t know, I just don’t like it for some reason. Maybe I’ll give it another try, still have the demo for another few weeks.

I gave a Mac a thought a while ago. I thought, since I have a PC already, maybe I’d expand my horizons and get a mac notebook. Then I changed my mind since I’d have to purchase all the software for it in Mac format and ended up buying myself a new laptop.
So I’ve got 2 PC formats, and my snookey has one, and my daughter has one. So WTF would I be doing with a Mac in a PC household? Although I do like to learn new stuff. acchhh. Best wishes with your new toys. I’ll have to be happy with what I’ve got (for a change).

Congrats! I’ve been seriously considering getting a Mac lately too. We have a PC desktop and a PC laptop (well we also have a really OLD desktop as well but that doesn’t count since we don’t use it) and with my husband using the computer more and more lately we’ve seen the need for another laptop. So if we do get one I think I’ll look into a mac. I’d be interested in hearing your experiences like how different it is to use from a PC as I haven’t really used a mac before.

I anguished over posting a comment on your last post because I wanted to respect your right to do so if you had joined a religious or vampire cult, but I am relieved to find it’s MacCult. Like lots of your friends, I have MacEnvy. Good on ya

@ Jaejae - Thank you and it’s always good to know someone who’s techie!
@ Jafer - Hey if your happy with what you’ve got, there isn’t a need to go out and buy something new.
@ Fickleminded - Thanks
@ Tricia - Honestly, it’s really easy to use. The only minor differences are how you do some of the keyboard short cuts and you need to set the preferences with the mouse if you like to right click. So far, I’m really love it. No major problems or complaints!!
@ O.D. - It was money well spent, I’d do it again in a heart beat.
@ Lorna - I’d never join a really cult. Well maybe if they give cookies. I’d reconsider

Congrats!! and welcome to the family.. It’s not a cult, just a lifestyle choice. Enjoy it.. you will.

i’m planning on buying a laptop before this year ends. and i’m actually considering buying a Mac after being a PC user for a decade now. i’m kinda scared that i’ll get frustrated with it or i’ll go crazy trying to work it like a PC. hmmm… i guess that’s one dilemma of PC users with mac. i just love how easy it is to plug and play for real with a mac. also, setting up a wireless network connection with a mac is a no-brainer, that’s why we don’t get much calls from mac users in our call center. another thing, 99% of the viruses going around the web were designed for PC users. so i’m really considering buying a mac instead.
congrats with your new toys! hope to read more of your experience with it to convince me to go for a mac instead.
