Calling all Podcasters or Videobloggers

by Lyndon on October 11, 2008

So I’m still recovering from the cold. Thankfully it’s a long weekend (It’s Thanksgiving in Canada on Monday) But because I’m sick doesn’t mean that I’m still not working on various things for this site. One of the features that I’m thinking of adding is either a Podcast or Videocast.

So to any of the many people that visit my site. If you happen to record either of these things. I’m wondering what your using to record or edit your shows.  E.g. Computer, microphones, cameras, etc… Tell me what your using in the comment section and leave a link to one of your productions so I can check out the quality.

If your comment doesn’t show up right away, check back in awhile. It might have been sent to the moderation section;I’ll free it up as soon as I get a chance.

Later…

I end up filming with either my webcam or one of my cameras and any videos or music I do, I put into the podcast category on my site - although I haven’t done one in quite a while. Here’s a link to one of them although I think I must be missing a codec that I used to have because I pixelated the movie, but not as much as the way I’m seeing it now: http://www.idiotonastick.com/talk/?p=820

I use Arcsoft Showbiz DVD2 or Windows Movie Maker to edit them. I did have another program that I bought that will also split the movie, but I can’t remember what it’s called since I didn’t reinstall it ‘yet’ since my last reformat.

Sometimes I’ll put them up on YouTube and link them as well, but that’s usually through my other identity since I am often shown in my own videos.

I use a TASCAM 224 (http://www.tascam.com/products/us-224.html) USB mixing board and an inexpensive Radio Shack microphone (this one I think http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2348188&cp=&sr=1&kw=microphone&origkw=microphone&parentPage=search). I don’t know if you’re listening to either of my podcasts but when I first started doing my novel Archangel I was using a Plantronics headset. I “moved up” to the mixer board+mic since I got an iMac and the audio in only accepts powered mics and I wanted the ability to have more than one audio source.

@ Scott - You rock sir!! Yes I’ve been listening to your podcasts, so I’m glad you left the comment of what you use. The production and quality of podcasts are top notch.

Thanks! Also (and especially if you do a podcast with multiple people) download Levelator (http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator). It’s what does the grunt work of making sure all your audio levels are … level. It’s free and multi-platform.

Oh and I didn’t mention it and it’s something I need and that’s a pop filter. You can rig one but they’re not expensive. It’s the thing you hook on a mike to keep your “p”s from popping.
