Roses Part Deux

by Lyndon on August 14, 2008

So my prior attempt to shoot a picture of my roses with my camera phone left a lot to be desired. Usually by the time the roses have bloomed this year, the rain would come down heavy and damage them.

This was the best of the bunch, that I have.  For some reason the white and pink ones seem to stand up to the weather best.  I took the picture using my Nikon D40, stock lens (AF-S 18-55mm).   In the RAW format and converted them to JPEG’s in Photoshop.  I think I’ll have to take a shot in JPEG form for comparison as well; but some other time.

If you click the picture, it will take you to my Flickr account and you can get a look at the pictures in a larger format.

On the close up of the picture you can see the beads of water on the bottom petals.  So at least the rain helped create a cool effect in the picture :)

Yes, the pictures are very clear. I want to see the difference when you start from .jpg instead of converting from raw.

Love the close up with drops of water!

@ Jafer - I’m working on it and I’ll be posting pictures sometime next week.

@ Ivanhoe - Thanks, I thought it looked neat too!!

That’s a lovely rose. Do you know what kind it is? Does it have any scent?

Have you tried using the macro setting on your camera when taking close ups of your roses? I think you’ll have to be in jpeg mode to use the macro preset. I take quite a few of my rose and other flower closeups with the macro setting and I’m quite happy with how they come out.

Have fun with your new camera!

@ Tricia - I’m not sure what kind it is. But it does have a lovely fragrant scent. It’s a really sweet scent, that just seems to linger all around it.

I haven’t tried the macro settings yet, I’m stilling learning the various features and getting use to the camera. But I’m planning to take some macro shots soon!
